In the week ending October 17, 2009, domestic
raw steel production was 1,473,000 net tons while the capability
utilization rate was 61.7 percent. Production was 1,682,000
tons in the week ending October 17, 2008, while the capability
utilization then was 70.5 percent. The current week production
represents a 12.4 percent decrease from the same period
in the previous year. Production for the week ending October 17,
2009 is up 1.9 percent from the previous week
ending October 10, 2009 when production was 1,446,000 tons and the
rate of capability utilization was 60.6 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through October 17, 2009 was
47,670,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 48.2 percent. That
is a 45.5 percent decrease from the 87,461,000 tons during the same
period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 88.0
percent.

ending October 17, 2009 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast:
115; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 92; Lake Erie: 47; Detroit: 59;
