In the week ending February 6, 2010, domestic
raw steel production was 1,605,000 net tons while the capability
utilization rate was 67.3 percent. Production was 1,057,000
tons in the week ending February 6, 2009, while the capability
utilization then was 45.1 percent. The current week production
represents a 51.9 percent increase from the same period
in the previous year. Production for the week ending February 6,
2010 is up 0.7 percent from the previous week
ending January 30, 2010 when production was 1,595,000 tons and the
rate of capability utilization was 66.9 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through February 6, 2010 was
8,296,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 64.9 percent.
That is a 53.3 percent increase from the 5,412,000 tons during the
same period last year, when the capability utilization rate
was 43.9 percent.
Broken down by districts, here’s production for the week
ending February 6, 2010 in thousands of net tons: Northeast Coast:
139; Pittsburgh/Youngstown: 107; Lake Erie: 48; Detroit: 112;
Indiana/Chicago: 408; Midwest: 222; Southern: 494 and Western:

In the week ending January 30, 2010, domestic
raw steel production was 1,595,000 net tons while the capability
utilization rate was 66.9 percent. Production was 1,016,000
tons in the week ending January 30, 2009, while the capability
utilization then was 42.4 percent. The current week production
represents a 57.0 percent increase from the same period
in the previous year. Production for the week ending January 30,
2010 is up 1.5 percent from the previous week
ending January 23, 2010 when production was 1,587,000 tons and the
rate of capability utilization was 65.6 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through January 30, 2010 was
6,691,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 64.6 percent.
That is a 53.6 percent increase from the 4,355,000 tons during the
same period last year, when the capability utilization rate
was 42.4 percent.
